"IF NOT YOU, THEN WHO?"
By David C. Daniels,
Adjutant - Newsletter Editor

First, let me apologoze to Mr. Skip Earle, Tennessee Division Commander for borrowing his above catch-phrase, "If not you, then who?"

Southerners have a tradition of close knit families, looking after each other and honoring their passed ancestors.
No other geographic area of this country has cemetery decorations like the south. It is a tradition, a tradition born from the heart.

We as descendants of Confederate soldiers and citizens are likewise obligated to so honor the memory of these men women and citizens of the South specific to their service to their country.

As outgoing Adjutant for the Dillard-Judd Camp I reflect back on the memorial services that I attended and had the honor to speak at. It was particularly touching and heart-warming to look out at the crowd and see tears well up in the eyes of those attending; for it seemed that they knew that we felt what were doing and that it is important to us.

As I leave my post as Adjutant of this camp let me thank all of you for your support, your time, your words of encouragement, your help and counsel. For the most part it has been enjoyable and a labor of love and I trust that I never have let any of you down.

Looking back over the past two years of my service to the camp, attending the many events, programs, memorials, parades, dedications I can say that it all was enjoyable, if not entertaining. I have enjoyed corresponding with other camps, those that have invited us to their events, the Commanders-in-Chief, Division Commanders, Adjutants, Awards committeemen and other SCV Camps and members. I have learned a lot. I know that I can truly say that I have forged some lifetime friends.

The Officer Search Committee has slated an excellent array of talent that will lead this camp for the next two years. I know that it was difficult for them to encourage some to take these positions, but I am well aware that this group of men have the heart and ability to see this camp continue its works.

So as the Camp embarks on a new era of leadership think about your place in the camp…what part will you take, where will you fit in and how will you honor these great men and women of the Confederate States then let me challenge you to heed Commander Earles words, and let me ask…"IF NOT YOU, THEN WHO?"
