Private McMillin was mortally wounded at the Battle of Murfreesboro. He received four wounds and was carried to a field hospital by his comrades where he died on January 3, 1863. His remains lie among the unknowns at the 
Confederate Circle in Evergreen Cemetery, Murfreesboro, TN.
