A find day in March found our
members placing a marker for Pvt. James Lewis of Baxters Co. at
Mt. Liberty Church and several markers at the Old Bellsburg Cemetery
for members of the 11th, 50th, & 49 TN Infantry including one
for a War of 1812 veteran.
Some members took a short break
to visit Pardue access area on the Cumberland River which is approximately
200 yds downstream from the site of Forrest & Wheeler's attack.
The Harpeth Shoals played a major part in interrupting movement
of boats during the Civil War. On January 10, 1862 the gunboat "Slidell"
along with four transport boats of the Union Forces were sunk by
Confederate Forces at Harpeth Shoals.
