Flags fly during the 1997 General Convention

July 30 - August 2, 1997, The Joseph E. Johnston Camp # 28 hosted the Sons of Confederate Veterans 101st Reunion and the Military Order of the Stars and Bars 60th Reunion in Nashville, Tennessee.

The reunion was held at the Nashville Airport Marriott Hotel in Nashville, Tennessee. Camp # 28 sponsored numerous events from motorcoach tours to the Grand Ole Opry at Opryland U.S.A.

The event was kicked off by a reception at Two Rivers Mansion hosted by Nashville Chapters of UDC and SCV Camp #28 and ended with the presentation of debutantes and a dressed ball.

The convention Co-Chairmen were William (Wes) Shofner and Richard H. Knight, Jr. These two gentlemen planned the Convention, supervised the Committee and handled specific responsibilities too numerous to mention.

The Convention had the unique honor of a special guest. In attendance was Ms. Alberta Martin, said to be the last surviving widow of a Confederate soldier.

Peter Blaisdell portrayed President Jefferson Davis. Mr. Blaisdell, as President Davis, presented a rebuttal to President Abraham Lincoln's Gettysburg Address. His presentation of "The Other Side of Gettysburg" was a big hit.

The convention offered several motorcoach tours in Nashville and the surrounding areas. The Bus Tours included: Confederate Nashville , Battle of Murfreesboro ( including Sam Davis Home ), Hoods 1864 Tennessee Campaign - Spring Hill, Franklin and Nashville ( including Lotz House and Carter House ).

The Convention concluded with the presentation of Debutantes and a dressed Ball. The music ranged from a slow waltz to a very fast reel. The ladies were beautiful and the gentlemen were handsome. A good time was had by all.
