John Wesley Brandon

Pictured is Sgt. John Wesley Brandon, Co. E, 9th TN Cavalry, 1st Regiment, Gen John Hunt Morgan's Cavalry Brigade. Sgt. Brandon was captured July 19th 1863 at Buffington Island, Ohio during Morgan's famous raid. According to his great grandson, Mark V. Brandon of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Sgt. Brandon survived the prison at Camp Douglas, Illinois, " to raise more secesh, third generation like me. I wish I had a photo of him in uniform. I am not sure what the old soldier is wearing in this photo, which I date to around 1896." Sgt. Brandon was photographed standing outside his home in Grandview, Texas.
